Is it safe yet?
Many, many years ago, two friends took it into their minds that they should drag a third friend into their dark, depraved rituals of dice rolling and painted plastic. And so, I was introduced to Warhammer 40K.
The end of one edition, the beginning of another, everything was new and exciting. Codices weren't quite updated, rules weren't quite balanced, but still... Several months of constant change, books, models, rumors; it was glorious. Never mind that I never had time to actually put the models on the table, there were blogs to read, videos to watch, net lists to critique. And time passed. Another new edition. Another rise in prices. Everything that had been learned and planned must now be relearned and replanned. And did I mention ANOTHER rise in prices?
I just couldn't. The books went to the overflow bookcase where things are seldom seen again. The models moved from visible shelving to sealed containers. And time passed. And another new edition. And yet more price rises.
And here we are. Personnel changes. Business practice changes. Rule changes. Model changes. Dare I revisit that which I once so enjoyed? It has a different feel now. Calmer maybe?
I am, as of very recently, the owner of the brand new 8th ed. Rule book and the Chaos Renegades Codex. I've been gone a long time.
